WebsiteLoudness was created in 1981 by virtuoso guitarist Akira Takasaki and drummer Munetaka Higuchi after the breakup of their previous band, LAZY, joined by singer Minoru Niihara, a former member of Earthshaker, and bassist Masayoshi Yamashita, a childhood friend of Takasaki. Pioneers of the heavy metal genre in Japan, the band quickly met with great success there, and released a first international album in English in 1984. The following year, it moved to the United States and signed a contract with the American label Atco Records, changing its musical style to a more commercial glam metal. Its first two albums recorded in the United States by producer Max Norman enjoyed some success. Despite this, Minoru Niihara was let go in 1989, replaced by an American singer, Mike Vescera, more comfortable with English.
