WebsiteMasterplan was founded in 2002 after Roland Grapow and Uli Kusch were expelled from the power metal band Helloween. Their first EP Enlighten Me was released on November 18, 2002. Their first album, Masterplan, was released in 2003. The band then consisted of Grapow and Kusch with Norwegian singer Jørn Lande. The keyboard parts of the album were for the most part composed by Roland Grapow and Uli Kusch, and it was Janne Wirman, the keyboardist of Children Of Bodom, who took care of recording the keyboards on this album. However, he decided to continue with Children Of Bodom, even though Grapow offered him to stay in the band. It was Axel Mackenrott who replaced him during the ensuing tour, then became a permanent member of the band. The bass parts of the album were played by Grapow, and the band hired Jan-Sören Eckert.
