Mastodon

Mastodon is a progressive sludge band that appeared in 1999 in Atlanta, in the United States, whose album covers are often extremely elaborate. The band is renowned for its unique blend of rock/metal with sludge, progressive and heavy sonorities, with a high content of psychedelic passages. Mastodon has five albums to its credit, the most recent, The Hunter, dating from September 2011. The album went straight to 10th place on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States. Bill Kelliher and Brann Dailor previously played in Lethargy as well as Today Is The Day. Brent Hinds and Troy Sanders, for their part, previously played in a band named Social Infestation. After releasing two albums and an EP with Relapse Records, Mastodon "succumbed" to the offers of the major label Warner, which would release their third opus, Blood Mountain, via Reprise Records.
