Mekong Delta is a German progressive thrash band founded in 1985 on the initiative of Ralf Hubert, a sound engineer known for his work with Warlock and Living Death, among others. The band then brought together various well-known musicians of the German metal scene: Jochen Schröder (ex-Rage) on guitar, Peavy Wagner (Rage) on bass, Jörg Michael (ex-Rage, ex-Paganini) on drums, Wolfgang Borgmann on vocals. Many other musicians have played within Mekong Delta. Besides original compositions, one of the band's distinctive traits is adapting pieces of symphonic instrumental music by playing them in a thrash style, such as Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky, or Night on Bald Mountain by the same composer, and the Sabre Dance by the Armenian Aram Khachaturian.
