Genre: Death Metal
Country of origin: France
Formed in: 1987
Mercyless was formed in 1987 by Max Otero, Stephane Viard, Gerald Guenzi and Boris Mandavy under the name Merciless, before realizing that this name was already the property of a Swedish band; they then replaced the i with a y and became Mercyless. The band spent its time between local concerts and rehearsals, recording two demos, Immortal Harmonies in 1988 and Visions of the Past in 1989, which allowed them to get noticed. Their style is influenced by the death/thrash metal of the bands from southern Florida (Death, Obituary...). In 1990, the band made its first recording appearances on the label Jungle Hop with its E.P. Vomiting Nausea and on the compilation Total Virulence with its track Without Christ. In 1992, Mercyless changed bassist (Rade Radojcic replacing Boris Mandavy) and recorded its first album, Abject Offerings.
