WebsiteMisanthrope, a French extreme metal band, formed in May 1989, initially as a trio. Its name draws inspiration from Molière's eponymous work. Indeed, and particularly in the band's earliest days, S.A.S de l'Argilière used the prism of the character of Alceste within the compositions, thereby allowing him to better reflect his pessimistic and misanthropic vision of the contemporary world and France. In 1991, the band released a split CD called "Hater Of Mankind" after recording two demos. Their first album, "Variation On Inductive Theories", was released by the production house Holy Records in 1993. It was followed by a three-part opus, "Miracles:Totem Taboo", which came out in 1994. In May 1999, Misanthrope celebrated its 10 years of existence and released a collector's edition featuring a triple CD limited to a print run of 1793 copies.
