Moonspell

Moonspell is a black/death/gothic metal band originating from Portugal. Formed in 1989 under the name Morbid God by Fernando Ribeiro (singer), Ares (bassist) and two other musicians, the band initially operated in the black metal register. Their musical style would subsequently evolve as demos and EPs were released. In 1992, the band was renamed to its current name. In 1993, the demo Anno Satanae was released. Buoyed by growing popularity, Moonspell opened for Cradle Of Filth's concert in Lisbon in 1994. Shortly after, the band recorded its first album, Under the Moonspell, then signed with the record label Century Media Records and released its second album Wolfheart. The release of the album Irreligious marked one of the band's first successes, including the track Opium.
