WebsiteNightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band formed in 1996 in Kitee, in the North Karelia region. It is considered one of the representatives of the genre and one of the bands responsible for the surge in popularity that symphonic metal experienced in the late 1990s. Although the band became famous in its native country as soon as its first single, The Carpenter, was released in 1997, international fame only began with the release of the albums Oceanborn and Wishmaster. The song Sleeping Sun is the first of the band's singles to be released beyond the borders of Finland, thereby allowing it to become known throughout Europe. In October 2005, the band members decided to part ways with their singer Tarja Turunen, who was officially replaced in May 2007 by the Swedish singer of Alyson Avenue, Anette Olzon.
