Nocturnus is a death metal band formed around 1987 in Florida. It is the first death-metal band to have used keyboards. It is also the first to have tackled science fiction as a theme in its lyrics. The albums "The Key" and "Thresholds", released one after the other in 1990 and 1992, enjoyed a certain success. Then, faced with stability problems, the band was announced several times as split up then re-formed until the end of the 90s. The vocals are often modified to give a harsher aspect, thus giving a more futuristic impression. Some parts even resemble a talking robot, giving a distinct futuristic atmosphere. A third album "Ethereal Tomb" finally saw the light of day in 2000, leading to an official split in 2002.
