WebsiteRaven is an English Heavy Metal band founded in Newcastle in 1974 by brothers John and Mark Gallagher. Owing to its early start, its longevity and the breadth of its discography, the band is considered one of the founding fathers and principal figures of the NWOBHM alongside Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Saxon, Venom, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Samson, Girlschool and Tank. In 1979, definitively taking the form of a power trio, the band developed an energetic and fast style based on aggressive, high-pitched vocals and short songs with complex, syncopated rhythms. As such, Raven, which from the outset described its style as "Athletic Rock", is one of the precursor bands of Speed Metal (the future Thrash Metal) which developed from 1983 in the United States. It is, moreover, one of the few bands of the NWOBHM movement to have toured in the United States.
