Sanctity was formed in 2000 in Asheville, North Carolina. After numerous tours around North Carolina, Tennessee and South Carolina, Sanctity took a break following Trivium's attendance at one of their concerts in South Carolina. Matt Heafy (singer of the band Trivium), impressed by what he saw, received the band's recording and passed it on to Monte Conner, vice president of A&R at the label Roadrunner Records.
