WebsiteSkyclad is a folk metal band from England formed in 1990. Like the band Bathory, it is considered one of the pioneering bands of folk metal. The band takes its name from the practice of nude rituals in Wicca, where these rituals are performed with participants literally "clad" only by the "sky", as a sign of equality. This name also alludes to the band's religious beliefs. Skyclad was formed by Sabbat singer Martin Walkyier and guitarist Steve Ramsey, after Walkyier left Sabbat due to a disagreement with guitarist Andy Sneap. They signed a contract with the German label Noise International and recorded Wayward Sons Of Mother Earth in 1991. After a tour with Overkill, they recruited Fritha Jenkins on violin and keyboards as well as a second guitarist.
