Website
Soundgarden is an American rock band from Seattle, Washington. It was formed in 1984 by singer Chris Cornell, guitarist Kim Thayil and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Matt Cameron became the band's drummer in 1986, while Ben Shepherd became the bassist after Hiro Yamamoto left in 1990. Along with Alice in Chains, Nirvana and Pearl Jam, Soundgarden is considered by the specialized press to be one of the four bands that defined the grunge musical style: the Big Four of Seattle. It was also the first grunge band to sign with a major label (A&M Records in 1989), but it only achieved commercial success during the peak of grunge's popularity in the early 1990s.
