WebsiteSTRYPER is an American white metal band founded in 1983 in Orange County, California, by Michael Sweet (born 07/04/1963 in Whittier, California) and Robert Sweet (born 03/21/1960 in Lynnwood, California). The name STRYPER is a reference to the King James Bible. It is also the backronym of Salvation Through Redemption Yielding Peace Encouragement and Righteousness. Michael Sweet was drawn to Christianity and churches from a very young age. In the early '80s, he created the band ROXX REGIME with his brother Robert. In 1984, they opened concerts for Ratt and Bon Jovi. STRYPER split up in February 1992. Michael Sweet then launched a solo career. Oz Fox and Tim Gaines for their part formed SINDIZZY. STRYPER reformed in 2003.
