Suicidal Tendencies is an American hardcore punk/thrash metal band formed in 1982 in Venice, California. They are considered the precursors of skate punk; their music also includes heavy metal and funk-metal elements. The band, led by Mike Muir, had a difficult start, notably being voted "Worst Band/Biggest Assholes" by Flipside magazine. Nevertheless, the band's number of fans grew rapidly, as did the rumors about possible ties with gangs (which led to them being banned from performing in concert in Los Angeles). The band signed with the independent label Frontier Records and released its first album, Suicidal Tendencies, in 1983. This album achieved the best sales for a hardcore Rock album at the time. 1987 marked the comeback with Join The Army.
