Theatre of Tragedy

Theatre of Tragedy is a Norwegian gothic metal band originally from Stavanger, formed in 1993. It is generally considered one of the leading and pioneering bands of gothic metal, and on a more general level, of the wave of atmospheric metal with female vocals at the end of the 1990s. Their first three albums in particular constitute a marked influence for the doom-gothic metal genre whose formula was imitated by many bands. Their music then moved towards an orientation more marked by electronic music. After parting with their first singer, the band headed towards a more accessible metal that combines certain elements of their gothic period and their electronic period. After seventeen years of career, the band took the decision to split up in October 2010.
