WebsiteThe Cult, initially called Southern Death Cult, is a British rock band, originally from Bradford, England. Over the years, the band regularly changed its line-up, with the exception of singer Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, the band's songwriters. In its earliest years, the band appeared as a progenitor of gothic rock, a musical scene that was then developing strongly in England in the wake of punk rock and then post-punk; the band was also influenced by Native American culture, psychedelic rock and the Doors. After "moving" to London, The Cult released the album Love, which won them a wide audience, reaching 4th place in the charts in England with singles such as She Sells Sanctuary and Rain. After which, the band moved away from that sound to migrate toward the music of the moment, hard rock.
