The gothic metal band Tiamat was born in Sweden in 1988, from the breakup of the black metal band Treblinka. Johan Edlund (vocals/guitar/keyboards) is accompanied by Jorgen Thullberg, Stefan Lagergren and Andres Holmberg. Their first album Sumerian Cry appeared in 1990. In 1991, on the occasion of their signing with Century Media, they welcomed Thomas Petersson and Niklas Ekstrand, then released The Astral Sleep. After Clouds (1993) came The Sleeping Beauty - Live In Israel (1994), following which Edlund fired everyone except Hagel and brought in Magnus Sahlgren (guitar) and Lars Sköld (drums). A few months later, Tiamat released its fifth opus Wildhoney. In 1995, they all moved to Germany and Johan Edlund declared himself the only official member of Tiamat.
