Country of origin: England

Formed in: 1969

UFO was formed in 1969 by singer Phil Mogg, guitarist Mick Bolton, bassist Pete Way and drummer Andy Parker. The band first took the name Hocus Pocus, before finally opting for UFO in reference to a London club where they used to play. It was in this same club that they were spotted by producer Noel Moore, who got them signed to his label Beacon Records. The band released its first album in 1970, a typical example of blues- and boogie-inspired hard rock, simply called UFO. It contains, among others, a cover of Eddie Cochran, C'mon Everybody, and secured a certain success for the band, notably in Japan (C'mon Everybody would be a big hit) and in Germany (30th place on the charts for the single Boogie For George).
