The band was formed in 1985 under the name Sweet Vengeance by guitarist Chris Astley. Xentrix mainly played metal covers before focusing on composition. The band changed line-up a lot in its early days. In 1989 they signed with Roadrunner Records and entered the studio to record their first album Shattered Existence with producer John Cuniberti (Vio-lence, Forbidden, Joe Satriani).
