X-Wild was founded in 1993 by Axel Morgan (Axel Kohlmorgen), Jens Becker and Stefan Schwarzmann. The three were former members of Running Wild, hence the band's name (Ex-Wild). Shortly after, British singer Frank Knight joined them. In 1994, they released their first album So What!. After the second album Monster Effect, Schwarzmann left the band in 1995. During the album tour supporting Grave Digger, Rainer Heubel (ex Mania) helped out as drummer. Before the next album, Frank Ulrich (Grave Digger) joined the band. The concept album Savageland was released in 1996. Shortly after, the band split up. Jens Becker joined Grave Digger in 1997.
