ZZ Top

ZZ Top (pronounced zee zee top) is an American rock band originating from Houston, Texas, which reached the peak of its fame in the 1970s and 1980s. The members of this power trio are Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard. The band has sold more than 50 million albums throughout the world, half of them in the United States. The legendary origin of their name remains relatively obscure. Some claim it is the name of the cigarette paper used at the time by the band members. A rumor also persists that it would simply be a typo, the band originally supposed to be called "22 top" and not "zz top". Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard were 21 years old when they decided to create their trio in 1970. They released their first album soberly called ZZ Top's First Album with a resolutely blues sound. In 1972, they released the album Rio Grande Mud.
