Heavy Metal in Baghdad is a feature-length documentary that follows the Iraqi heavy metal band Acrassicauda from the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003 up to the present day. Playing heavy metal in a Muslim country has always proved very complicated (not to say impossible), but just after the end of Saddam's regime, there was a brief moment when everything seemed possible. That fragile hope faded as the country sank into a spiral of violence and blood. As Iraq disintegrated around them from 2003 to 2006, the members of Acrassicauda fought not to lose themselves, to stay alive at all costs and not to give up their heavy metal dream. Their story echoes the silent hopes of an entire generation of Iraqis.
