At the age of fourteen, Steve "Lips" Kudlow and his best friend Robb Reiner swear an oath to make music together for the rest of their lives. Their heavy metal band Anvil will go on to influence numerous bands such as Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax. In 1982, the members of Anvil are regarded as "the demigods of Canadian heavy metal". But the triumph is short-lived. More than 25 years after that episode, singer Steve "Lips" Ludlow and drummer Robb Reiner continue to nurse hopes of glory and fortune. Between family and odd jobs, they rack up gigs in bars, attempt a tour of Europe that turns out to be disastrous, and record a thirteenth album without the backing of a record label.
