Elf is an American blues rock / hard rock band from the early '70s. Its leader was Ronnie James Dio. It was in 1967 in New York that Ronald James Padavona, who would later become Ronnie James Dio, and Nick Pantas dissolved Ronnie Dio And The Prophets to form The Electric Elves along with David Feinstein, Gary Driscoll and Doug Thaler. The band released a single, Hey, look me over, the same year. In 1969, The Electric Elves renamed themselves The Elves. In 1970 the band was involved in a car accident that cost Nick Pantas his life. Doug Thaler stayed in hospital for several months and then left the band. At the end of the year Mickey Lee Soule joined The Elves, which renamed itself, once again, Elf. In 1972, a stroke of luck for Elf: while the band was in the studio recording its first album, it was discovered by Roger Glover and Ian Paice, who offered to produce it.
