Powerwolf est un groupe de heavy/power metal allemand originaire de la ville frontalière de Sarrebruck formé en 2003 sous le label Metal Blade Records. L'album Bible of the Beast bénéficie d'un budget plus conséquent que ses prédécesseurs permettant d'enregistrer les chœurs avec 20 choristes en auditorium et l'utilisation de l'orgue de la Chapelle Sainte-Barbe de Thionville en France. Powerwolf participe au Metal Summer Breeze Open Air de Dinkelsbühl (Allemagne) en 2007, 2009 et 2013. Le 18 avril 2013, le groupe annonce sur son site, la liste des chansons pour leur prochain album studio, Preachers of the Night, prévu pour l'été.

Metal is a menagerie, and the wolf is a favored animal found in a good number of bands (Varg, Thy Art is Murder, Death Angel...). But it's Powerwolf that has almost monopolized the wolf as a totem animal. And apparently, their wolf is rather a fan of a certain form of Christianity. The Vârcolac is an evil creature from Eastern European folklore. It's also the name of a monster in Hellboy.
